DTCC Tokenization Service Goes Live, Initially Supporting 34 Securities
The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation's subsidiary, The Depository Trust Company (DTC), has launched the DTCC Tokenization Service, with 34 securities eligible for tokenization at launch, including selected large-cap Russell 1000 constituents, ETFs and U.S. Treasuries. Tokens are backed 1:1 by securities held in DTC custody, carry the same legal and economic rights as the underlying, use the same CUSIP as the traditional version, and can be transferred peer-to-peer 24/7 between DTC-registered wallets. DTCC describes the service as creating a "practical path" for tokenized securities adoption, letting DTC participants convert between traditional and tokenized forms while retaining the same ownership rights and investor protections. The partner roster spans custody, wallet and trading infrastructure — BitGo, Blockdaemon, Fireblocks, HashKey, Kaleido, Prometheum, Talos, Temple and Tradeweb — and DTCC said 20 clients have signed agreements to access the service, including Citadel Securities, Citi, Fidelity Investments and JPMorgan. The service includes built-in compliance controls and near-real-time ownership tracking, and is currently integrated with Canton Network and DTCC's Besu-based private network, with additional networks expected in 2027. Reports of DTC's assets under custody differ — BlockBeats cited roughly $30 trillion while The Defiant cited more than $114 trillion including stocks and ETFs.

DTCC's tokenization service launches with 25 securities, backed by roughly $30 trillion in underlying assets
According to materials published by DTCC, its tokenization service has opened with 25 tokenizable securities whose underlying DTC-custodied assets total roughly $30 trillion. The tokens correspond 1:1 to the original securities, carry the same CUSIP, and can be transferred peer-to-peer 24/7 between registered DTC wallets subject to compliance transfer restrictions, while DTC remains the official book of record. Because the tokens keep the same CUSIP and the same rights and investor protections as book-entry securities, a slice of DTC-custodied assets — including Treasury coupon and maturity servicing — now runs on blockchain rails without DTC ceding its role as the official record keeper. The first supported assets are Russell 1000 constituents (starting with some large-cap stocks), selected ETFs and U.S. Treasuries; Treasury interest and maturity servicing will occur on-chain, with payments made in fiat to participants' traditional accounts. Initial networks are Canton Network (CIP-56) and DTCC's private Besu network (ERC-20), with Stellar (SEP-41) and Circle's Arc (ERC-20) expected to connect in 2027.
