CVE-2026-111943: Compromised Intermediate Certificate Authority

Background

Background

eMudhra is an India-based certificate authority that sells certificates under the emSign brand through companies in India, the United States and the Netherlands, and its roots are included in the Mozilla, Chrome and Apple root stores. According to The Register, it has issued more than 60 million certificates. Reports describe the flaw as originating in an HSM key-wrapping test script that produced a second set of weak P-384 key pairs during the April 2025 ceremony.

NIST's National Vulnerability Database published CVE-2026-111943 for a compromise of eMudhra intermediate certificate authority certificates, after Mozilla and Google's Chrome Root Program confirmed on October 20, 2026 that the private keys for eight eMudhra intermediates could be recovered directly from their public certificates. Chrome responded by removing emSign ECC Root CA - G3 from the Chrome Root Store to protect consumers that do not take CRLSet updates.

Because the private keys can be derived by anyone from public material, an attacker could mint a certificate that appears valid for any domain and impersonate sites such as banks, GitHub or PyPI, forcing operating system and browser vendors to push emergency trust-store updates.

eMudhra said in its incident statement that the affected intermediates were created during a key-generation ceremony in April 2025 and that its root CA private keys and other intermediate authorities were not affected, adding that no end-entity certificates were issued. Mozilla reported that it independently recovered the private keys for the impacted certificates at 21:48 UTC, confirming the key-generation process was flawed and trivial to exploit.

hackernews · keks24 · · Discussion · Single source

Analysis and references

Impact analysis

The exposure runs through the web PKI trust layer: any crypto exchange, custodian, wallet provider or dApp front end that relies on standard HTTPS certificates or certificate-based service authentication may need to reissue certificates or update trust stores, and clients that fail to apply updates face impersonation risk in the interim.

Discussion

Commenters focused on operational fallout: Gentoo users were advised to upgrade app-misc/ca-certificates to 20260816.3.125 or higher, and one noted Red Hat customers still had only a workaround disabling two Comodo root certificates used to sign the eMudhra certificates, with the advisory marked ongoing. Others flagged that Python users may need separate steps, while one commenter argued the underlying eMudhra incident is older news that NIST is only now formally cataloguing.

Solana’s biggest network change since 2020 is live. Here’s how users benefit

Background

Background

Before Alpenglow, Solana relied on TowerBFT for consensus and Turbine for block propagation, alongside Proof of History. Votor is described as a stateless, explicit voting structure inspired by the Streamlet protocol, designed for fast finality with minimal complexity. Alpenglow is described as the biggest overhaul of Solana's consensus mechanism since the network's 2020 mainnet launch.

Solana activated its Alpenglow consensus overhaul on mainnet, replacing the TowerBFT consensus mechanism with Votor and the Turbine block-propagation protocol with Rotor. The change cuts block finality from roughly 12.8 seconds to about 150 milliseconds.

According to Solana, Alpenglow is the network's first major consensus replacement since TowerBFT, changing how validators vote and how blocks reach finality. A finality time of roughly 150 milliseconds instead of about 12.8 seconds directly shortens the wait for transaction confirmation on the network.

Solana states the upgrade leaves transaction execution and the SVM unchanged, altering only consensus-related mechanics and how consensus information is exposed to downstream infrastructure. Rotor, like Turbine, erasure-codes each block into smaller "shreds" that can be reconstructed from a subset.

rss · CoinDesk · · Single source

Analysis and references

Impact analysis

Solana is one of the largest layer-1 networks, so cutting finality to roughly 150 milliseconds affects the confirmation workflows that exchanges, bridges and DeFi applications build around SOL deposits, withdrawals and settlement. The upgrade is a change to network infrastructure and user experience rather than to token supply or custody arrangements.

OpenAI Nears Close of New Funding Round, Seeking Up to $30 Billion at a $1.25 Trillion Pre-Money Valuation

Background

Background

Coatue is a New York-based, technology-focused investment management firm founded in 1999 and led by Philippe Laffont, investing across both public and private markets. A bridge round is interim financing meant to carry a company from one major financing or milestone to the next.

OpenAI is nearing the close of a new funding round in which it is seeking to raise up to $30 billion at a $1.25 trillion pre-money valuation, with investors from the UAE co-leading alongside investment firm Coatue, according to CNBC-sourced reports. OpenAI told investors on Thursday that it aims to sign the agreements by the end of next week, though the final size of the round is still being determined.

Should the round price OpenAI above a $1 trillion valuation, it would become the most highly valued private company on record. The company is positioning the raise as an "opportunistic bridge financing" ahead of a possible initial public offering.

The $1.25 trillion figure is a pre-money valuation, meaning it excludes the new capital being raised. OpenAI also is negotiating a commercial agreement to obtain additional computing resources from the UAE, and CFO Sarah Friar has previously told employees the company could list in 2027.

DeepSeek reportedly raises $15B days after US restrictions

Background

Background

The Homeland Security Department ordered the removal and exclusion of DeepSeek products from federal systems, citing national-security risks, and the directive also barred purchases of the Chinese firm's products and covered third-party services built on its AI models. The New York Times reported that China criticized the U.S. ban on DeepSeek in government systems, and noted DHS is not the first federal or state agency to restrict the company's tools. DeepSeek develops and open-sources frontier large language models, including DeepSeek-V4 and DeepSeek-R1, and offers chat and API access.

TechCrunch reported on October 22, 2026 that DeepSeek has raised $15 billion, described as one of China's largest funding rounds, just days after the U.S. ordered federal agencies to remove its technology. The report is framed as unconfirmed, and the round's terms and investor list were not disclosed.

The timing puts the reported raise directly against Washington's national-security restrictions on DeepSeek's technology, a contrast China's government has already pushed back on after the Homeland Security Department's removal order.

The report did not disclose valuation, investor identities or whether the round has closed. Earlier coverage of DeepSeek fundraising described different figures, including a sought $7.35 billion round, indicating that reported totals have varied across outlets.

rss · TechCrunch AI · · Single source

Analysis and references

Impact analysis

DeepSeek is a private AI developer with no token exposure, so any transmission runs through sentiment and capital flows rather than direct asset holdings: a raise of this reported size would reinforce the narrative of continued Chinese AI capital formation despite U.S. restrictions, a factor that can colour sentiment toward China-linked AI equities and to compute and export-control-sensitive segments.

US quietly eases stablecoin reserve rules as banks warn billions could shift away from lending

Background

Background

The OCC is the primary federal regulator implementing stablecoin rules under the GENIUS Act, the US stablecoin law that sets a 1:1 reserve standard of US dollars or short-term Treasuries for every token in circulation. The European Central Bank has separately warned that growing stablecoin adoption could shift deposits away from banks and affect lending and monetary policy.

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has eased stablecoin reserve rules over objections from banks, which had sought safeguards against deposit flight. Banking groups warn the change could move billions of dollars of deposits out of traditional lending and into stablecoin reserves.

The rule determines what assets stablecoin issuers must hold against tokens in circulation, and bank groups argue looser standards make it easier for deposits to migrate from lending into reserve holdings.

The change was made without a prominent public rollout, and the reporting frames it as the removal of safeguards banks had requested against deposit flight.

google_news · CryptoSlate · · Single source

Analysis and references

Impact analysis

The channel runs through reserve composition and bank funding: looser reserve standards can shift where stablecoin issuers park backing assets and pull deposits out of bank lending, affecting Treasury-bill demand in the reserve mix and stablecoin supply capacity. Exposure sits with stablecoin issuers, their custodian banks and the deposit franchises that fund credit.

Morpho Supports Borrowing Stablecoins Against Robinhood Stock Tokens as Collateral

Background

Background

Morpho is an open-source DeFi lending network launched in 2021 that runs on Ethereum and other EVM-compatible chains, letting developers build customized lending markets on its infrastructure. Robinhood Chain is Robinhood's Arbitrum-based Ethereum Layer 2 aimed at tokenized real-world assets, with an initial focus on US equity and ETF exposure through ERC-20 stock tokens that track share prices and trade around the clock.

Morpho announced on October 22 that Robinhood stock tokens are now live on its platform, allowing users to post tokenized equities as collateral and borrow stablecoins against them. Morpho supplies the underlying credit network while Robinhood Chain provides the tokenization infrastructure, and any application can integrate the resulting lending markets.

The integration extends on-chain credit markets to tokenized equity collateral, a step beyond the crypto-native assets that typically back DeFi loans.

Morpho positions itself as the credit layer rather than the tokenization layer, leaving issuance and settlement of the stock tokens to Robinhood Chain. The announcement did not specify which equities are supported, collateral ratios, or which applications have integrated the markets.

telegram · foresightnews · · 3 sources

Analysis and references

Impact analysis

The move links DeFi credit liquidity to equity-market pricing: demand for stablecoin borrowing inside Morpho markets now depends partly on tokenized-stock collateral, while the stock tokens' 24/7 trading and price feeds become inputs to liquidation and risk management for those markets. Exposure concentrates in Morpho's lending pools, stablecoin borrowers, and the Robinhood Chain ecosystem.

Uniswap Aggregator Hooks Go Live, Wrapping External Liquidity Sources Into v4 Pools

Background

Background

Uniswap v4 launched on mainnet in January 2025, introducing hooks, the singleton contract design and flash accounting. Hooks let developers attach custom logic to pools, and Aggregator Hooks is the first use of that mechanism to route into other protocols' liquidity rather than only Uniswap's own pools.

Uniswap Labs said in an Oct. 22 post that Aggregator Hooks are now live, making Uniswap v4 function as an aggregator by wrapping external liquidity sources into v4 pools that any router can treat as a Uniswap pool. The feature is available in the Uniswap Web app and API on Ethereum mainnet, Base and Robinhood Chain, with more chains to follow and seven liquidity sources at launch, including Curve, Fluid and PancakeSwap.

Uniswap said most onchain liquidity already sits on Uniswap but new liquidity can still emerge elsewhere, so folding external venues into v4 puts it in more direct competition with standalone DEX aggregators. Swaps routed through those external sources pay the protocol fee and contribute to UNI burn, linking aggregator volume to UNI supply.

Per block, the router pulls the latest quotes from integrated sources, builds the best path between Uniswap pools and external venues, and settles within a single transaction without requiring new approvals. BlockBeats reported the launch on Oct. 22.

telegram · foresightnews · · 3 sources

Analysis and references

Impact analysis

The release touches the DEX aggregator segment directly: Uniswap v4 can now absorb quotes from venues such as Curve, Fluid and PancakeSwap through its own router, so aggregator order flow and fee capture shift toward Uniswap's Web app and API. For UNI, the transmission channel is the protocol fee on externally routed swaps feeding the burn, making token supply sensitive to aggregator volume rather than only to Uniswap-native pool activity.

SoFi launches interest-bearing, FDIC-insured tokenized deposit for crypto users

Background

Background

The product extends a crypto build-out in which SoFi returned to consumer crypto trading in November 2025, subsequently launched the SoFiUSD stablecoin and brought it to its consumer app in May; SoFi Crypto now supports more than 40 crypto assets. Cointelegraph reported in May that SoFi planned interest-bearing tokenized deposits alongside SoFiUSD. The launch came a day after the US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency issued a final rule covering payment stablecoin issuance and some custody activities, with the GENIUS Act framework taking effect in mid-January. CEO Anthony Noto said the aim is for funds to keep generating yield before they are used, combining bank deposit yield and protection with the speed and utility of digital assets.

SoFi Technologies on Thursday launched SoFi Earn (ticker SOFIE), a tokenized deposit issued by SoFi Bank that pays a variable 4.40% annual percentage yield, carries no minimum balance requirement, and qualifies for FDIC coverage up to $250,000 per depositor, per insured bank, for each account ownership category. SoFi describes it as the first tokenized deposit offered directly to consumers by a US national bank and expects the rollout to SoFi Crypto members to be completed in November.

Each SOFIE corresponds to $1 on deposit at SoFi Bank and can be converted one-for-one into SoFiUSD, the bank's dollar-pegged stablecoin, to buy crypto in the app or send to supported external wallets — giving crypto users a bank-backed, deposit-insured way to hold idle dollars before they are deployed.

SOFIE deposits continue to earn interest until they are converted, whereas SoFiUSD itself, like other stablecoins, is not an FDIC-insured deposit. Members reach the separate SOFIE deposit account through their SoFi Crypto account.

google_news · The Block · · 6 sources

Analysis and references

Impact analysis

Yield-bearing, deposit-insured bank tokens compete for the stock of idle on-chain dollars that would otherwise sit in stablecoins, a channel that runs through stablecoin issuers' float and the bank deposits backing them. The launch also adds a consumer-facing bank instrument to a tokenized-money segment where commercial-bank deposit tokens are being positioned as a regulated alternative to e-money tokens.

CoinDCX Responds Again to Unaccounted $15.8 Million in User Deposits: Deprecated Address Was Long Abandoned, Operational Losses Borne by Platform

Background

Background

CoinDCX disclosed a $44 million hack in July 2025 that followed the compromise of a software engineer's company laptop used for side work. The exchange says wallet addresses created in January 2025 were compromised in that incident and have not been used by CoinDCX since. Blockchain investigators subsequently flagged roughly $16 million in suspicious movements tied to addresses said to be associated with the exchange.

On Oct. 22, India-based exchange CoinDCX again addressed on-chain controversy over deposit address TQKJQ, saying the address was compromised and deprecated after its July 2025 security incident and that users kept sending funds to it anyway. The exchange said its routine sweep process failed for a period, the failure was discovered that morning, and the resulting operational losses will be absorbed by CoinDCX, while all affected deposits were credited to users.

CoinDCX says affected users were fully credited and that funds remain in segregated cold wallets, with no loss of platform funds in active wallets — limiting direct user impact from an incident it otherwise describes as an operational failure.

The exchange said current centralized and user addresses are unaffected and that trading and platform operations continue as normal. It did not detail how roughly $15.8 million went unaccounted for over an extended period.

telegram · theblockbeats · · 5 sources

Analysis and references

Impact analysis

The dispute keeps attention on exchange custody practices and deposit-address hygiene, a channel that can affect user confidence and deposit flows on Indian spot venues. CoinDCX's statement that active wallets and platform funds were untouched limits any immediate read-across to other exchanges, though unresolved questions about the unaccounted funds remain a sentiment risk for the platform.

OKX UAE Launches Tokenised US Stocks with 24/7 Trading on VARA Licence

Background

Background

VARA was established in early 2022 and is the sole authority regulating virtual assets across Dubai's free zones and mainland, excluding the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). OKX has been building out tokenised securities offerings, including a tokenised securities venue developed with ICE.

OKX's UAE entity has launched tokenised US stock trading that is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, operating under its licence from Dubai's Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA). The offering extends regulated, crypto-style market access to US equity exposure.

A VARA-licensed venue offering round-the-clock tokenised equity exposure widens access to tokenised securities in one of the crypto industry's more developed regulatory jurisdictions, putting equity exposure on the same always-on footing as crypto trading.

Tokenised stocks are blockchain-based tokens designed to reflect the value of a specific equity. Separate reporting on OKX's broader tokenised-equity plans describes trading against stablecoins including USDC, USDG and USDT through permissioned Uniswap v4 liquidity pools on XLayer, OKX's layer-2 blockchain.

google_news · The Fintech Times · · Single source

Analysis and references

Impact analysis

The launch gives stablecoin holders on a licensed venue a route into US equity exposure, a channel that can pull trading activity toward OKX's UAE platform and the stablecoin pairs such products settle in. It also sets a licensing precedent within VARA's perimeter for how tokenised securities are listed and traded, which is relevant to other venues weighing similar products.

polkadotfoundationwarnsfearlesswalletextensionleakedprivatekeys

Background

Background

Polkadot is a proof-of-stake network designed to connect multiple blockchains, created by Ethereum co-founder Gavin Wood and developed mainly by Parity Technologies with support from the Web3 Foundation. Fearless Wallet is one of several third-party wallets serving that ecosystem, and its extension is promoted as offering fast performance and secure account storage on Kusama and Polkadot.

The Polkadot Foundation issued a warning that the Fearless Wallet browser extension leaked users' private keys, leaving affected wallets exposed to compromise. The warning names the third-party Polkadot-ecosystem wallet directly.

Private keys are what authorize transfers from a wallet, so anyone holding a leaked key can move the associated funds without further approval from the owner.

Fearless Wallet's browser extension is built for the Kusama and Polkadot networks and distributed through the Chrome Web Store for Chrome and Chromium-based browsers. The warning as reported did not include confirmed loss figures, exploit scale, or the number of affected users.

google_news · Binance · · Single source

Analysis and references

Impact analysis

The exposure runs through the custody channel rather than the protocol: DOT and KSM holders who used the extension face direct key-compromise risk, and the episode puts attention on the security posture of third-party wallets across the Polkadot and Kusama ecosystem. Polkadot's relay chain itself is not implicated in the warning.

Microsoft says its AI tool is better than doctors at diagnosing conditions

Background

Background

AI companies have long pitched healthcare as a flagship use case for their technology, and Suleyman has publicly framed the work as a push toward what he calls medical superintelligence. Earlier research has generally found generative AI diagnostic performance comparable to non-expert physicians but below expert-level reliability.

Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman announced a new AI diagnostic system that the company says can diagnose medical conditions up to four times more accurately than human physicians. The claim is based on a peer-reviewed study published in Science on October 22, 2026.

The result appeared in a peer-reviewed journal rather than a company demo, which gives Microsoft's claim more weight than a typical product announcement. The comparison, however, was against generalist physicians on difficult cases, not specialist doctors.

Microsoft's system, described as a diagnostic orchestrator (MAI-DxO), was reported at 83.2% accuracy in the Science study. Coverage notes that much of the improvement appears to come from the underlying AI models rather than from Microsoft's system itself.

rss · The Verge AI · · 2 sources

Analysis and references

Impact analysis

There is no direct transmission path to crypto markets: the announcement concerns a clinical diagnostic system with no token, custody, or on-chain component. Any effect would be indirect, via general AI-sector sentiment that AI-branded tokens sometimes track.

Dune launches real-time data feeds covering 200 onchain trading venues

Background

Background

The market for tokenized stocks has grown sharply over the past year: RWA.xyz data cited by the report puts distributed value at $3.58 billion, up from about $627 million a year earlier, a roughly 470% increase. Fragmentation and issuer pushback have accompanied that growth — OKX and NYSE parent Intercontinental Exchange announced plans on Oct. 4 for a tokenized stock trading platform through their OKXICE joint venture, and 16 companies including Microsoft, Alphabet and Goldman Sachs have since filed objections to having their shares traded there, without specifying reasons. In May, Tiger Research director Ryan Yoon warned that trading the same tokenized stocks across multiple blockchains could create price discrepancies, increase slippage and reduce market efficiency.

Dune announced on Thursday that it has launched real-time market data feeds covering more than 200 onchain trading venues across 12 blockchains, including Ethereum, Solana, Base and XLayer, delivering trade data roughly one second after execution. The feeds cover spot trading on decentralized exchanges as well as perpetual futures on Hyperliquid and Lighter, with standardized data on prices, trade sizes and transaction details.

Dune co-founder and CEO Fredrik Haga said most institutions are watching onchain markets first because "they can't price these assets properly without them anymore," pointing to market data as the entry point for institutional onchain participation. The launch comes as tokenized stock markets expand and face growing scrutiny.

Haga said quant funds, market makers, asset managers and bank trading desks are among the first clients, but declined to identify them, citing nondisclosure agreements. According to Dune, these firms use the data to assess liquidity, compare prices across venues and evaluate trading strategies before committing capital.

rss · Cointelegraph · · Single source

Analysis and references

Impact analysis

The feeds give institutional desks standardized, near-real-time pricing across DEX spot venues and perpetual futures platforms such as Hyperliquid and Lighter, lowering the data-integration barrier that currently sits between traditional trading systems and onchain execution. Over time that channel could affect liquidity and market-making depth on the covered venues, and it links tokenized-equity pricing debates to onchain market-data infrastructure.

a16z Drops Crypto From Its Name, Widens Bets to AI and Frontier Tech

Background

Background

a16z's disclosed crypto bets include Coinbase, the Solana blockchain and Uniswap. In January the firm said it had raised more than $15 billion across its funds, and co-founder Ben Horowitz wrote that the mission "starts with winning the key architectures of the future—AI and crypto." Dixon has said long-horizon investing has been his focus since joining a16z in 2013, a theme that led to investments in Oculus and drone startups such as Skydio and Zipline.

Andreessen Horowitz is renaming its crypto fund "a16z Crypto" to "a16z Frontier," widening its mandate to AI, biology, hardware and other long-horizon technologies while saying it will keep investing in crypto and advocating for crypto regulation. The change was disclosed in an email to the firm's newsletter subscribers on Thursday, with Chris Dixon leading the fund alongside Marc Andreessen, Ben Horowitz, Eddy Lazzarin and Guy Wuollet.

a16z is among the largest backers of the crypto industry, and as the report frames it, a firm of that size dropping "crypto" from its name shows where it may expect the next wave of capital to go.

The firm calls the move "an expansion" and says crypto stays: "we will continue to invest in crypto and related ventures and advocate for sensible crypto regulation." The post gave no size for the renamed fund; the latest figure on record is the $2.2 billion announced in May.

rss · Decrypt · · 3 sources

Analysis and references

Impact analysis

The rename does not itself move capital or liquidity; its transmission path runs through crypto venture-funding sentiment and narrative, with a16z's retained crypto holdings (Coinbase, Solana and Uniswap among disclosed bets) and its regulatory advocacy remaining the direct points of exposure. Any tilt of capital toward AI and frontier tech would surface first in future funding rounds rather than in spot markets.
