Why keeping your private keys safe won’t always stop crypto theft

On Sept.

6, Liquid lost almost 4,000 Bitcoin through a withdrawal its software approved even though the private keys used to authorize it had not been stolen; according to TRM Labs' reconstruction, attackers exploited a software flaw to create L-BTC without backing Bitcoin and exchanged those tokens for real coins.

Crypto insurance can cover losses without guaranteeing customers full reimbursement, and even successful repayment can leave customers short if compensation is calculated in dollars instead of Bitcoin.

Why Solana’s new 250ms speed boost could actually trigger network instability

Solana’s 250ms slot time became effective at epoch 1037 on Sept. 18, according to the Solana engineering changelog and a Solana Compass report that placed the transition at about 05:06 UTC; an early Sept.

20 sample covering 60 one-minute windows observed about 266ms per produced slot, and epoch 1037 skipped about 0.05% of scheduled slots.

The source says the more important test is whether leader handoffs, transaction forwarding, repair and multiple validator clients remain reliable as Solana considers a conditional move to 200ms.

Charles Hoskinson says Cardano no longer comes first – its treasury vote explains why

Cardano DReps let Input Output's 12.29 million ADA treasury request for Pogun expire without ratification; Koios recorded 64.33% of delegated representative voting power against and 35.67% in favor, while the Constitutional Committee recorded seven yes votes (100% committee approval).

In a Sept.

18, 2026 broadcast, Charles Hoskinson said Input Output will choose the best network for each product rather than automatically prioritizing Cardano, while saying Pogun is still headed to Cardano; the proposal had offered 20% of earnings until repayment, then a perpetual 5% on Cardano-related products, with repayment tied to $2.95 million, and stated dates remain forward-looking targets.

Visa Moves to Close Meme Coin Credit Card Rewards Loophole

According to Crypto In America, JP Morgan has scored a narrower victory in a separate fight over credit card rewards on crypto purchases; according to a source familiar with the matter, Visa is moving to close an apparent loophole in Crossmint-powered checkouts that allowed meme coin purchases made with credit cards to be processed under a merchant code intended for digital media. Earlier, Chase told The Block that one Visa transaction was misclassified and should not have earned rewards, and the New York attorney general's office also told The Block it was aware of and reviewing the matter; meme coin purchases will continue but must be processed as crypto transactions under Visa's rules, and processors have a grace period expected to end next week.

Coinbase, Robinhood, Circle could be early winners of SEC's tokenized-stock push, analysts say

Goldman Sachs and Citizens analysts said the SEC's five-year innovation exemption could benefit Coinbase, Robinhood and Circle by allowing qualifying tokenized U.S. stocks to trade through automated market makers on public blockchains. They noted Robinhood must add shareholder rights and other features to make its stock tokens compliant, while trading caps, issuer opt-outs and technical limits are expected to protect traditional exchanges from significant competition.
